Installation
Karelia Spring - easy to install and easy to maintain Installing a Karelia Spring- floor is easy and fast. The components of its factory made subframe are laid at a 45-degree angle to the parquet boards. The height of the sprung structure can be adjusted upon installation. The parquet boards and component parts of the frame are of compatible dimensions thus ensuring minimal waste. Karelia Spring is made of environmentally friendly recyclable materials. All component parts of the floor are easy to transport and easy to handle, and require a relatively small transportation space. Everything has been packaged in a way that ensures easy handling. Check all the following points before starting to install the Spring -floor:
Installation instructions This is how you install the Karelia Spring - floor 1. Check that the subfloor is dry, even and dustless. Install the first component part of the underframe parallel to the walls. Install underframe components all around the area. Go around the poles and pillars as well. Remember to leave a gap of at least 18 mm between the wall/ pole/ pillar and the underframe components. Can be adjusted by wedges.
2. Install the first component row at a 45° angle to the wall. Measure 5 meters from the conrner to each side. This is how you get a 45° angle.
3. Continue installing with the 45° angle. You can install several rows (e.g. 3 rows) at the same time. Check that the measurements between the elements are 350 mm center to center and the empty area between the elements is 300 mm. An end joint in one row needs to be staggered at the minimum of 500 mm from an end join in the next row.
4. Install the entire area.
5. Install Karelia self supporting parquet (21 mm or 23 mm). Apply some glue between the component part and parquet board. The distance between the parquet and the walls (minimum 18 mm) can be adjusted by using wedges.
6. Nail the parquet board to each part using pin type fasteners that are 50 mm long and back length is about 10 mm. Fasteners have to contain some glue. Do not use normal nails or screws. Nail them through the parquet board tongue at 45° angle.
7. Apply glue to the groove of the short side of the board and 10 cm length of the long side of the board. Also apply glue between the parquet board and underframe component part. An end joint in one parquet row needs to be staggered at the minimum of 500 mm from an end joint in the next row.
8. Continue to lay the boards until the floor is finished. Check direct Karelia Spring/ Bona Sportive instructions for the paintings and lacquering. Mark all the game lines where necessary and coat the floor. Remove the wedges and fasten the ventilated skirting without pushing them too tightly against the floor.
The floor must be stiffened e.g. near the doorways, auditoriums, storages and other places, which carry heavy loads. Stiffen the sprung structure by using pieces of plywood. Use glue and nails to keep them in place.
